Vanuatu is one of the latest
places where the UofN is establishing a presence as part
of our extended network of training locations. If you
think about big college campus when you hear the word
'university', then you have to rethink, in order to
understand the UofN in Vanuatu.
There is no big campus, maybe
there will never be one. Our classes are small, usually
not over 20. The training happens in a live-learn
environment where students and staff live together on
one of our YWAM Bases, or a
particular class might rent a house that suits the
purpose. The verandah becomes the classroom, the
master-bedroom the girls dorm... you get the idea.
How can that work? It is
because our students are so hungry to learn what God has
for them, that they don't care much about the
surroundings, and because our staff are so dedicated to
see the students grow in their skills, personalities and
their faith, that they willingly sacrifice the comforts
of a well-equipped college facility.
The result? Excellent academic
training without putting the students into a highly
artificial environment. The connection to the real world
is maintained at all time through the environment and
through intentional involvement with the community as
part of the curriculum. In the end, students can
actually apply what they have learned. |
