The
schools listed above would meet great needs and
desires in Vanuatu, that's why they could be
among some of the first ones to be run here.
Also, we had bases from overseas signal interest
in help establishing some of these schools in
Vanuatu in the near future.
Vanuatu is categorized as a least developed
country by the UN and faces a lot of challenges.
Especially the areas of education and healthcare
are in bad shape. English is the main language
in businesses, but the English proficiency among
young people is generally quite low, thus making
it hard for many to find jobs. Many diseases
could be minimized or prevented by applying very
basic health and hygiene principles. More than
half of the young people are carrying one or
more sexually transmitted infections. HIV/AIDS
is becoming a problem which could easily take on
the proportion of that in Africa, mainly because
people do not know anything about AIDS. Also,
there is a great deal of emotional pain and
trauma but no real place to receive counseling.
Some of the churches are catching a glimpse of
God's vision for islanders going out as
missionaries and want to be part of it. They
want to send out some of their people as
missionaries and are asking for appropriate
training for their future missionaries.
What is important to us is that the schools and
seminars held in Vanuatu are relevant first and
foremost to Vanuatu. This could mean a different
UofN location runs their school here once or
twice as needed, or a school establishes itself
in Vanuatu for the long run.
We
encourage any UofN location and any UofN School
Leader to consider Vanuatu as a possible place
for an outreach and for multiplication of their
school. Get in touch with us and we can start
discussing and praying about it.
