The UofN has only a short
history in Vanuatu. In fact, YWAM as a whole has only
been established in Vanuatu in 2005. Nevertheless, in
those few years of its existence, God has worked
remarkable things and opened many doors for the UofN.
As a result of this, YWAM and
its courses affiliated with UofN have the governments
full support. As a so-called Christian nation and in
view of the desperate needs in education, the Vanuatu
government is more than glad to have an excellent
Christian Training Provider such as YWAM set up camp in their country.
We also have the support of many different local
churches throughout the country, wanting their youth to
be trained for service in their churches and
communities.
In 2006 we ran our very
first DTS which was a big success. In 2007 we ran our second DTS, this
time combined with a Basic Leadership School (BLS) for
the staff. From these two DTS we had a total of 44
students graduate who are now able to join YWAM anywhere
or pursue further studies in UofN.
From these two DTS we had
teams do their field assignments in the Pacific Islands,
Australia, Asia and Africa.
We have also enabled a
young Vanuatu man to go to Kona and pursue a UofN degree
in Communications. He has completed his DTS and several
other schools by now and is well under way to earn his
degree.
After the DTS
in '07, we
had one of our students go to Perth to do a TESOL
(Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages). She
has now returned and is a certified and internationally
recognized English Teacher.
2008 has seen two DTS
run in March. One in the same location as the
two prior ones and a new one in the northern
part of the country on a small island off of
Espiritu Santo. Both schools are leading teams
on local and overseas outreaches. |
